The drive log for carriage drivers
Every drive, every gait.Built for carriage driving.
Fitness apps treat a carriage drive like a bike ride and get the horse wrong. Turrot tracks every drive over GPS and reads your horse's gait live, sized to your horse from 30 inch minis to 18.3hh drafts, so you know exactly how your horse worked.

The problem
A carriage drive is not a bike ride
Fitness apps miss the horse
They see a phone moving at a speed. They don't know a mini from a Shire or a trot from a canter, and they have nowhere to put your horse, your carriage, or your hitch.
So you're left guessing
How long did your pair really trot today? How much work has your mare done this month? A watch and a notebook only get you so far.
Your horse deserves a real record
Runners and cyclists take a full record of every session for granted. Carriage drivers should have the same for every horse they drive.
Why Turrot
Built for driving, not riding.
We know the feeling of finishing a good drive with nothing to show for it but a tired, happy horse. Turrot starts from the box. It knows your horse's size, the vehicle you put to, and how many horses are in front of you, and it uses the words you already use.
Built by a carriage driver, tested on real drives. Confirm before launch
How it works
Start it before you put to
Your first drive takes about five minutes to set up, and you never need to touch the phone while you drive.
-
Start the drive
Add your horse's breed and height, which is what sizes the gait speeds to your horse. Pick the carriage and the hitch, tap Start Drive, and put the phone in your pocket.
-
Drive
Turrot follows the route over GPS, reads the gait as it changes, and keeps recording with the screen locked. Turn on voice updates to hear how it is going. Both hands stay on the reins.
-
Keep the record
Tap End Drive when you are home. The route, distance, time, and minutes at each gait are saved to every horse in the hitch.
What Turrot does
Everything a drive log should keep
Gait detection
Halt, walk, trot, canter, and gallop, read live and scaled to your horse's size, so a 38 inch mini and a Shire are each judged on their own terms.
Routes mapped by gait
Your drive drawn on the map and colored by what the horse was doing. See exactly where you trotted and where you walked home.
Horses, carriages, hitches
A record for every horse you work and every vehicle you put to, with each horse in its named position on the hitch.
Voice announcements
Hear each gait change, or a summary every 5 minutes, so the phone stays in your pocket and your hands stay on the reins.
Goals and conditioning
Weekly or monthly goals and streaks, plus an eight-week conditioning log for each horse that flags a sharp jump in workload so you can keep an eye on it.
Share or export
Share a drive with privacy zones that hide home and the yard, or export it as GPX for your trainer, your vet, or your own files.
How the gait reading works
A mini's trot is not a Shire's trot
A gait timer that flickers is worse than none. Here is what Turrot does to keep the numbers honest, and where it draws the line between gaits for a few common horses.
- Set for each horseGait speeds grow with height at the withers, the size scaling used in equine gait research, then adjust for breed. A Standardbred's road trot reads as trot, and a running walk or tölt reads as trot too.
- One bad reading cannot drag the numberSpeed comes from the ground covered over the last 4 seconds, then takes the middle of the last 5 readings, so a single jump in the signal is thrown out.
- No flicker at the edge of a gaitTurrot waits until the horse is clearly into the next gait before it switches, so your trot minutes are not chopped into pieces.
- Weak GPS readings are droppedAny position less accurate than 15 meters is ignored, and jumps faster than 30 mph are thrown out. Drives under heavy tree cover are flagged afterwards.
- Teams read as a teamOn a multi-horse hitch the gait lines are averaged across the horses you name.
Where Turrot draws the line, in mph
| Horse | Walk to | Trot to | Gallop from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Miniature, 38 inch | 3.9 | 8.4 | 14.6 |
| Shetland, 42 inch | 3.9 | 8.2 | 13.8 |
| Welsh Pony, 12.2hh | 4.5 | 9.7 | 17.1 |
| Morgan, 15hh | 5.0 | 11.1 | 18.7 |
| Standardbred, 15.2hh | 5.0 | 19.9 | 28.0 |
| Friesian, 16hh | 5.0 | 9.8 | 16.3 |
| Shire, 18.3hh | 5.2 | 10.4 | 17.6 |
Canter runs between the trot and gallop lines. Enter your horse's true height and breed: a wrong height is the most common cause of a wrong gait.
All 18 hitches, every horse in its place
Near is left and Off is right, from the box. The wheelers are next to the vehicle and the leaders are at the front. Each drive records which horse went where.

Straight answers
Before you download
I don't want my phone out while I'm driving.
You are right, and you won't need it out. Start the drive before you put to, put the phone in a pocket or on a mount, and end it when you are back and unharnessed. It keeps recording with the screen locked, and voice updates tell you how it is going. If you would rather not carry a phone on the box at all, that is a fair decision.
My logbook works fine.
Keep it. Write your notes in the book and let the phone do the counting: the exact route, the distance, and how many minutes were really spent at trot. When the vet asks what work a horse has had, Turrot shows the whole history on one screen.
What does it cost?
Turrot is free to download, and you can record a full drive, with gait detection, without paying. Confirm before launch Any paid features and their prices will be listed here plainly, with any trial, how to cancel, and where the cancel button is.
What if my battery dies mid-drive?
Turrot saves a drive in progress every 20 seconds. If the app closes or the phone dies, it offers to save the unfinished drive the next time you open it.
Do I need to make an account?
No. There is no account and no sign-up. Open it, add your horse, and drive.
Will it work for my miniature, or my draft team?
Yes. Gait speeds are set from each horse's breed and height, from 30 inch miniatures to 18.3hh drafts, and teams are read across every horse put to.
Where are my drives kept?
On your phone, and in your phone's own iCloud or Google backup. Your drives are not sent to us, sold, or shown to advertisers. To keep a copy of a single drive outside the app, export it as a GPX file.
What Turrot does not do yet
- No cloud copy of your own. Your records live on your phone and in its backup, and can't be shared across a second phone.
- No shared barn or club accounts. Each phone keeps its own records.
- Distances and weights show in miles and pounds for now.
- Drives can't be renamed, annotated, or edited after they are saved.
- No watch app or heart rate monitor connection.
- It is a record of the drive. It is not a safety device and does not replace your vet or your trainer.
We would rather tell you here than have you find out later.
Stop guessing. Start knowing.
Without a record
- Another season of guessing how far and how fast
- A big week after a quiet month slips by unnoticed
- Good drives remembered, but never recorded
With Turrot
- Know exactly how long your pair trotted today
- Build each horse's work week by week, and see it on a chart
- Every drive for every horse in one place, ready to share

Get ready now
Your first drive, the day it arrives
About five minutes, done once, at home rather than in the yard. Have your horse's breed and height to hand.
- Add your horse. Name, breed, height, and weight. Set the Hands or Inches switch before you type the height. Turrot uses breed and height to set the gait speeds for that horse, so get these right.
- Add your carriage. Give it a name and type so it is saved with each drive.
- Choose your hitch. For more than one horse, put each horse in its position: Near and Off, Leader through Wheeler.
- Start before you put to. Tap Start Drive, pocket the phone, and drive. Tap End Drive when you are home. The first time, your phone asks to use your location: choose Allow While Using App and keep Precise Location on. Turrot keeps recording with the screen locked. On Android, also allow notifications, or the phone may stop the drive when the screen goes off.
Add the printable getting-started PDF here, and the minimum iOS and Android versions from the store builds.

Common questions
Why does Turrot need my location?
Turrot works out speed from your position, and reads the gait from speed. Without location it cannot record a drive.
Why does it keep tracking when the screen is off?
You drive with both hands on the reins and the phone in a pocket. If Turrot stopped when the screen went dark it would only capture part of a drive.
The gait looks wrong for my horse.
Check the breed and height on the horse's profile first. Those set the gait speeds, and a wrong height is the most common cause. If they are right and it still looks off, email us with the breed, the height, and the date of the drive.
Can I keep where I drive private?
Yes. Share cards support privacy zones, so the start and end of a drive near home or the yard are hidden from anything you share.
Can I get my drives out of the app?
Yes. Drives export as GPX, which opens in most mapping and training software.
How do I delete my data?
See deleting your data. You can remove single records in the app, or everything at once.
Privacy policy
The short version
Turrot records your location while you are driving, including when the screen is off, because that is how it measures the drive and reads the gait. Your drives stay on your phone. We do not sell anything, and we do not send your location to advertisers or analytics. When cloud backup arrives, this policy will be updated and you will be told before anything changes.
The full policy must specifically disclose how the app accesses, collects, uses and shares location data and with what kinds of parties, or Google Play will reject the submission. It also needs: what is stored and for how long, photo access, the on-device position today and what changes with cloud sync, the minimum age, how to delete data, and how rights requests are handled for drivers in California, the UK and the EU.
Terms of service
Cover acceptable use, that Turrot is a record of the drive and not a safety, veterinary, or training device, limitation of liability, governing law (Florida), and how changes are announced.
Deleting your data
Turrot does not use accounts. Your drives, horses, carriages, goals and settings are stored on your phone only.
Delete everything
- On iPhone. Press and hold the Turrot icon, choose Remove App, then Delete App.
- On Android. Press and hold the Turrot icon, choose App info, then Uninstall.
Deleting the app removes every drive, horse and carriage record permanently. Export anything you want to keep as GPX first.
Delete single records
You can delete a single drive, horse or carriage inside the app without removing anything else.
When accounts arrive
If Turrot adds accounts in future, this page will explain how to delete your account and everything stored with it, from the app and from this page.
Questions: [email protected]. We confirm deletion in writing.
